The war in Ukraine has had a devastating impact on the town of Bakhmut, leaving the city in ruins and its residents without access to basic necessities like power and water. Despite these dire conditions, UkraineNow.org and our partners Charity Fund "Liutyi" have launched a humanitarian mission to bring aid and evacuate those in need.

Thanks to our donors who subscribed to monthly donations for evacuations, we successfully evacuated 54 individuals from Bakhmut and surrounding settlements, including the elderly, disabled, and those with limited mobility. Despite the constant shelling and the dangerous road to the nearest city in Ukraine-controlled territory, Dnipro, the team was able to provide help and support every step of the way. This included distributing 1.5 tons of humanitarian aid and assisting with further travel and shelter arrangements.

The decision to evacuate was not an easy one for many, as they had no relatives, were afraid of the dangerous road, and did not know what their future held. The volunteers, however, went above and beyond, showing people video messages from their loved ones and providing a sense of comfort and hope.

Bakhmut was heavily shelled, and the volunteers were in the basements during the air raids. The team continued with targeted evacuations and was able to help a woman who had lost her husband the day before and needed assistance buying a ticket to Kharkiv for her daughter.

This humanitarian mission is a shining example of the power of compassion and the human spirit. The volunteers should be commended for their unwavering efforts in the face of such adversity.

Bakhmut remains a stronghold of the Ukrainian army in the East, even though the situation in the area escalated greatly in the beginning of 2023. The team of “Liutyi” continues working with evacuation requests in other towns in Eastern Ukraine.
With your help, we can support them and, without exaggeration, save people’s lives.
